School in Sheopur, India Gets Steel Plates After Mid-Day Meal Served on Newspaper Sparks Outrage
Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh – November 9, 2025 – A government primary school in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh has received new stainless steel plates after a video surfaced showing students eating their mid-day meal on newspapers. The incident sparked widespread condemnation, including criticism from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
The video, which went viral earlier in the week, prompted swift action from local authorities. The contract of the self-help group responsible for preparing the meals was terminated and handed over to the school management committee on Friday. The school in-charge, Bhogiram Dhakad, has been suspended, and notices have been issued to two other staff members.
On Saturday, BJP leader and former State minister Ramniwas Rawat, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhishek Mishra, visited the school in Hullapur and shared a mid-day meal with the students, now served on the new steel plates. Mishra assured reporters that the situation was being closely monitored to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Rahul Gandhi took to social media, sharing the original video of the children eating on newspapers and criticizing the state and central government, stating that the BJP’s development claims are an “illusion” and denouncing the lack of dignity afforded to the children.
