Djokovic Withdraws from ATP Finals Due to Injury After Hardcourt Record-Breaking Victory

Athens, Greece – Novak Djokovic has announced his withdrawal from the prestigious ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, citing an ongoing shoulder injury. The announcement came shortly after his hard-fought victory over Lorenzo Musetti in the Hellenic Championship final on Saturday, where he secured his 72nd hardcourt title, surpassing Roger Federer’s previous record.

“I was really looking forward to competing in Turin and giving my best,” Djokovic shared on social media. “But after today’s final in Athens, I’m sad to share that I need to withdraw due to an ongoing injury.”

Djokovic revealed that he has been managing the injury throughout the Athens tournament. Despite the setback, the Serbian star displayed remarkable resilience in the final against Musetti, battling for nearly three hours to secure a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory.

“An incredible battle,” Djokovic said after the match. “Three hours of a grueling match, physically… I’m just very proud of myself to get through this one.”

The withdrawal means Lorenzo Musetti will now take Djokovic’s spot in the ATP Finals, which begins on Sunday.

Djokovic, a seven-time ATP Finals champion, expressed his disappointment at missing the tournament for the second consecutive year due to injury. However, he remains focused on recovery and future competitions.
