UDF Aims to Reclaim Kochi Corporation, Releases “Chargesheet” Against Incumbent LDF

KOCHI, November 8, 2025 – The United Democratic Front (UDF) has launched its campaign to regain control of the Kochi Corporation with a scathing “chargesheet” against the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has governed the city for the past five years.

Speaking on Friday, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan accused the LDF of turning Kochi into a “living hell” by failing to address critical issues such as mosquito eradication, waterlogging, and waste management. He criticized the LDF’s “Operation Breakthrough” as a failure and asserted that the CPI(M) was attempting to take credit for projects initiated by previous UDF administrations, including the new Corporation headquarters, the Cochin Smart City project (worth ₹20,000 crore), the Kaloor stadium, Kochi metro, Kochi airport, and the Goshree bridges.

Satheesan emphasized that the UDF would focus on further development, expanding the city beyond Greater Kochi, implementing coastal shipping projects, and targeting a 400-fold increase in tax revenue.

The event was presided over by District Congress Committee president Muhammed Shiyas. MPs Hibi Eden and Jebi Mather, along with MLAs K. Babu, T.J. Vinod, Uma Thomas, and Anwar Sadat, were also in attendance. The UDF has promised to approach the public with a range of “dream projects” alongside their critique of the LDF’s governance.
