Chennai, November 8, 2025 – Inspired by the success of the popular organic farmers market formerly held in Kilpauk, a new market is set to open tomorrow, November 9th, at CD Nayagam Higher Secondary School in T. Nagar. Aram Thinai, an organization dedicated to climate change, environment, and livelihood, will host the market on the second Sunday of each month.
The market aims to further the “Farm to Table” movement in Chennai, offering residents direct access to organic produce and connecting them with local farmers. According to Karthik G., co-founder of Aram Thinai, the initiative seeks to create a more climate-resilient food system for the city by providing market access to farmers in Chennai and surrounding areas.
Visitors can expect 20-30 stalls featuring organic products from farmers, women’s groups, and social entrepreneurs. The market will boast a diverse selection, including over 20 varieties of greens, 10 varieties of traditional rice, organic groceries, value-added products, and prepared food items.
Organizers emphasize consumer engagement and education, encouraging attendees to explore the offerings and learn about the benefits of organic agriculture. The Kilpauk market, which served as inspiration, typically attracted around 1,000 visitors.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Grace Banu, transgender activist, Ananthoo, founder of Organic Farmers Market, and Shanmugam, secretary of the school. A mandala art workshop is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
This is a zero-plastic market, and attendees are urged to bring their own bags and containers. For more information, contact 7449138207 or 8939138207.
