Pirates Seek First-Ever Victory Against Charlotte in Homecoming Showdown

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina Pirates (5-3, 3-1 AAC) will host the Charlotte 49ers (1-7, 0-5 AAC) this Saturday at 3 p.m. ET inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, aiming to secure their first-ever win in the series history and keep pace with the top of the American Conference. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Coming off a dominant 45-14 victory over Temple, the Pirates are riding high, boasting one of the conference’s most potent offenses, averaging 32.1 points and 475.2 yards per game. Their defense is equally impressive, holding opponents to just 16.8 points and 326.2 yards per game.

Charlotte, under first-year head coach Tim Albin, is looking to rebound after a 54-20 loss to North Texas and snap a losing streak. The 49ers are struggling on both sides of the ball, averaging just 17.5 points per game while allowing 37.2.

Vegas oddsmakers have installed East Carolina as a significant 28.5-point favorite.

Saturday’s game marks Homecoming and Hall of Fame weekend for ECU. Legendary former AD Terry Holland, along with football greats Dwayne Harris, Justin Hardy, and Shane Carden, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Former high jumper Tynita Butts and wrestler Daniel Monroe will also be honored.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Pirates will be sporting throwback helmets featuring the “flying ECU” logo from the early-to-mid 1990s, complementing their modern throwback all-purple uniforms.
