Kyiv, Ukraine – As Ukraine braces for another harsh winter of war, the country is urging the international community to impose tougher sanctions on Russia and freeze its assets after a night of intense Russian attacks left at least 10 people dead and widespread power outages across several regions.

Ukrainian officials reported that Russia launched over 500 air attacks overnight, including 45 missiles and 458 drones, targeting critical infrastructure, particularly gas and power facilities. While Ukrainian air defenses intercepted the majority of the drones, most of the missiles evaded defenses, causing significant damage and power cuts in multiple areas.

The attacks resulted in casualties and injuries in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kherson, Kyiv, Dnipro, and Poltava regions. A residential building was among the targets hit.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his call for stricter sanctions against Russia, specifically highlighting the need to target Russia’s nuclear energy sector, restrict the flow of Western microelectronics to Russia’s military-industrial complex, and increase pressure on the country’s oil and gas trade. He stated that these strikes show that the pressure on Russia must be stronger.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed it launched a “massive strike” using high-precision long-range weapons, including hypersonic ballistic missiles. The Ministry also claimed to have intercepted Ukrainian drones and aerial bombs.

Meanwhile, fierce fighting continues in Pokrovsk, Donetsk, where Russian forces are attempting to seize control. Ukrainian forces are reportedly intensifying attacks around Dobropillia to relieve pressure on Pokrovsk.
