Malappuram, India – November 7, 2025 – Several grama panchayats in the Malappuram district of North Kerala have been designated as surveillance zones following the detection of African swine fever (ASF) in a dead wild boar. The carcass was discovered in the Marutha area, prompting immediate action from the district administration.

District Collector V.R. Vinod has declared Vazhikkadavu, Edakkara, Pothukallu, Chungathara, Karulai, and Muthedam grama panchayats, all within a 10-kilometer radius of the discovery site, as areas under heightened surveillance.

Authorities have assured the public that ASF is a disease specific to pigs and does not pose a threat to humans or other animal species. Importantly, no pig farms have been detected within a one-kilometer radius of the affected area.
