Fri Nov 07 06:22:58 UTC 2025: Pakistani Batsman Abbas Afridi Smashes Six Sixes in an Over at Hong Kong Sixes Tournament
Hong Kong – Pakistani batter Abbas Afridi etched his name into the record books at the Hong Kong Sixes tournament on Friday, equalling a record by smashing six sixes in a single over. Facing Kuwait’s Yasin Patel, Afridi’s explosive hitting helped Pakistan chase down a daunting target of 124 in their six-over-per-side match.
Afridi’s blistering innings saw him score 55 runs off just 12 balls, providing the backbone for Pakistan’s thrilling victory, which they secured on the very last ball at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok.
While Afridi hasn’t featured for the national side since July, his performance in the ICC-sanctioned tournament is sure to turn heads. The 24-year-old, who debuted for Pakistan in January of 2024, has played 24 T20s, scoring 134 runs at an average of 12.18.
The Hong Kong Sixes is a fast-paced, six-a-side tournament known for its high-scoring matches and dynamic gameplay. The format requires all players (except the wicketkeeper) to bowl an over, emphasizing the need for all-round capabilities. The tournament, revived in 2024 after a hiatus, features teams from around the globe and offers a unique and entertaining experience for cricket fans. Afridi’s feat will be officially recognized as a record since the tournament is sanctioned by the ICC.
