Bihar Election: Tejashwi Yadav Dismisses Prashant Kishor’s Impact, Focuses on Main Alliances

Purnia, Bihar – As Bihar’s first phase of voting concluded, opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav downplayed the potential impact of poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s newly formed Jan Suraaj party on the election’s outcome. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Yadav asserted that Jan Suraaj, which is contesting all 243 seats, would not significantly alter the battle for Bihar.

Yadav focused on the core contest between the ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the opposition Mahagathbandhan, fronted by his Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. He also dismissed the influence of Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

While Jan Suraaj’s ambitious statewide campaign is noteworthy, analysts suggest it may act as a spoiler, potentially drawing votes from both major coalitions, especially among young, educated middle-class voters seeking jobs and economic change.

The first phase of polling saw a record voter turnout of 64.66%, which Yadav views as a positive sign, indicating a desire for change and a Bihar free from corruption and ripe for economic development. Despite the BJP’s recent successes against the anti-incumbency trend in other states, Yadav remains optimistic about the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects.
