PM Modi Commemorates 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram with Stamp and Coin Release

New Delhi, November 7, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released a commemorative postal stamp and coin to mark the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, Vande Mataram. The event, held in Delhi, also saw the launch of a special portal, 150.in, dedicated to the song.

Speaking at the Vande Mataram commemoration program at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, PM Modi emphasized the song’s enduring power to inspire confidence and unity among Indians. He urged citizens to participate in year-long celebrations across the country, extending until November 7, 2026, to keep the spirit of Vande Mataram alive for future generations. The central cabinet approved this initiative on October 1st of this year.

“Vande Mataram evokes a sense of unwavering self-belief, reminding us that no goal is unattainable when we stand together,” Modi stated. He encouraged citizens from all walks of life to participate in mass singing events in public spaces.

The event was attended by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, among other dignitaries.

Vande Mataram, penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, was first published in the “Bangadarshan” literary magazine on November 7, 1875 (Akshaya Navami). The song, part of Chatterjee’s novel “Anandmath,” played a crucial role in inspiring the Indian independence movement.
