Monterey County to Issue Partial CalFresh Benefits Next Week Amidst Delays

Monterey County, CA – Monterey County officials announced Thursday that partial Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/CalFresh) benefits are expected to be distributed next week, following federal authorization. The move comes amidst ongoing disruptions affecting the full disbursement of CalFresh funds.

“The Federal government has authorized partial SNAP benefits be issued and the State is working to begin issuing partial CalFresh benefits some time next week — the week of November 10, 2025,” said Maia Carroll, the county’s public information officer.

SNAP/CalFresh recipients are urged to check for updates as more information becomes available. To mitigate the impact of the delays, the County has allocated $150,000 to local food banks to ensure continued access to food for vulnerable residents. The county is also encouraging other jurisdictions to contribute to local food banks.

“The County is encouraging partner jurisdictions to consider joining us and give if they can,” Carroll said.

While facing these disruptions, the Department of Social Services encourages eligible residents to continue applying for CalFresh benefits. Despite the historical trend of increased applications during the fall and winter months due to seasonal employment fluctuations, the county has noted a recent decline in applications.

Approximately 51,000 Monterey County residents currently receive CalFresh benefits, with about 29,000 being children. County officials emphasize that many beneficiaries are employed but still rely on the program to meet their nutritional needs.
