Naidu to Expedite Irrigation Projects in North Andhra, Minister Says

Vijayawada, India – November 7, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu plans to visit North Andhra districts soon to personally oversee the progress of long-delayed irrigation projects and direct their accelerated completion. This announcement came from Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu following a high-level review meeting held Thursday.

Minister Ramanaidu stated that Chief Minister Naidu is making the revival of irrigation in the North Coastal region a top priority, highlighting the alleged neglect of the sector during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure. He claimed that no funds were allocated to irrigation projects in the region during the past five years, causing the stalling of initiatives begun under the previous TDP government.

The coalition government aims to complete major projects, allocating over ₹2,000 crore for this effort, within the next two years. An action plan is being developed to expedite nine high-priority projects, including the BRR Vamsadhara, Thotapalli, Vamsadhara–Nagavali Link, Janjavathi Reservoir, Hiramandalam Lift, Nagavali–Champavathi, Mahendra Tanaya, Tarakarama Teerthasagar, and Madduvalasa Reservoir.

The completion of these projects is projected to bring an additional 1.24 lakh acres under irrigation and stabilize another 2.48 lakh acres. The government emphasizes its commitment to ensuring water access to drought-prone areas and boosting agricultural growth through efficient irrigation strategies.

“While the previous government pushed the irrigation sector into decline, we are determined to restore it and ensure water reaches every last acre,” said Minister Ramanaidu.
