Body of Missing Indian Medical Student Found in Russian River
UFA, RUSSIA – The body of Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a 22-year-old Indian student who went missing in Ufa, Russia, nearly three weeks ago, has been recovered from a dam adjacent to the White River. Chaudhary, a resident of Kaphanwada village in Rajasthan, India, was studying medicine at Bashkir State Medical University.
Chaudhary disappeared on October 19th after leaving his hostel to reportedly buy milk. His clothes, mobile phone, and shoes were found near the riverbank.
The Indian Embassy in Russia has informed Chaudhary’s family of his death. Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh Alwar has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Chaudhary’s death, alleging a possible “untoward incident.”
“This is an extremely sorrowful moment,” Singh Alwar said in a statement. “In suspicious circumstances, we have lost a promising young boy.”
The All India Medical Students’ Association has also urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to assist in the repatriation of Chaudhary’s body to India and to investigate the matter. Chaudhary’s friends at Bashkir State Medical University have confirmed the identification of the body.
The University is yet to issue a statement.
