Driver Rams into Pedestrians and Cyclists on French Island, Wounding Ten

Bordeaux, France – November 5, 2025 – A 35-year-old man deliberately drove his car into pedestrians and cyclists on the French island of Oleron earlier today, injuring ten people, four critically. The incident occurred along a main road between Dolus d’Oleron and Saint-Pierre d’Oleron, a popular tourist destination off the Atlantic coast.

According to prosecutor Arnaud Laraize, the Oleron resident “deliberately hit several pedestrians and cyclists.” Police apprehended the suspect using a taser as he allegedly attempted to set fire to his vehicle. Upon arrest, the man reportedly cried “God is the greatest” in Arabic.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident as a case of “attempted murder.” While the motive remains unclear, the suspect, known to police for petty crimes, may have a psychiatric disorder, according to investigators.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is en route to the island and is expected to address the press later today.

The incident comes ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Bataclan attack in Paris. France has been on high alert following a series of jihadist attacks in recent years. The investigation is ongoing.
