The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital (TNGMSSH) in Chennai has introduced CT calcium scoring as part of its preventive health check-ups. This non-invasive procedure, now offered in the Platinum Plus package and as a standalone test, aims to assess cardiac risk by detecting calcium deposits in coronary arteries. The test is particularly beneficial for individuals aged 30-50 with isolated co-morbid conditions, a family history of heart disease, or high stress levels, especially those unable to undergo traditional treadmill tests. Officials emphasize that the test is indicative and will guide further testing and management.

Chennai Hospital Offers New Heart Health Test for Middle-Aged Adults
Chennai, November 6, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital (TNGMSSH) has announced the addition of CT calcium scoring to its Advanced Master Health Check-up program. This new, non-invasive test aims to identify potential heart issues in middle-aged adults before serious problems arise.
After a year of monitoring the occurrence of calcified plaque in coronary arteries, the hospital decided to make CT calcium scoring a key component of their preventive health screenings. The procedure, which is similar to a routine chest CT scan, is now available as part of the “Platinum Plus” package for ₹4,000, or as a separate test for ₹500.
“Many individuals are unable to undergo the Treadmill Test (TMT) which is a standard part of our health package. This might be due to back problems, blood pressure variations, or other physical limitations.” explained V. Anand Kumar, nodal officer at TNGMSSH. “CT calcium scoring offers an alternative method for cardiac risk assessment.”
The test is designed to detect calcium deposits in the arteries, indicating possible coronary disease. It is particularly recommended for individuals aged 30 to 50 with existing health conditions, a family history of coronary artery disease, or high levels of stress.
“This test is not for identifying existing blockages, but for identifying calcium build up. It can provide early warning of disease,” Kumar emphasized.
The test is quick, taking only about two minutes, and requires no prior preparation. While the results are indicative, they can help doctors determine if further testing and treatment are necessary.
The TNGMSSH hopes that CT calcium scoring will empower individuals to take proactive steps toward better heart health.
