West Bengal Electoral Roll Revision Plagued by Violence and Political Interference Allegations

Kolkata, India – November 6, 2025 – The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal is facing scrutiny amid reports of violence and accusations of political interference. Opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), allege that workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) are intimidating Booth Level Agents (BLA) and influencing Booth Level Officers (BLO) during the door-to-door distribution of enumeration forms.

Several incidents have surfaced, including a video showing a BLO accompanied by individuals carrying TMC flags, leading to allegations of the BLO operating under political influence. In another instance, a BLO was filmed distributing forms from the residence of a local TMC leader, raising further concerns.

The BJP claims its BLAs have been attacked and forced out of areas during the distribution process. While TMC leaders deny direct involvement in the alleged violence, they claim BJP has not been able to support the people during the SIR process.

Despite the controversies, over 1.10 crore enumeration forms have been distributed across West Bengal since Tuesday. According to reports, the TMC has submitted 147 BLA 1 forms and 27,744 BLA 2 forms, the BJP has submitted 339 BLA 1 forms and 35,651 BLA 2 forms, while the CPI(M) has submitted 196 BLA 1 forms and 27,392 BLA 2 forms.

The allegations of violence and political interference threaten to undermine the integrity of the electoral roll revision process, raising questions about the fairness of upcoming elections in the state.
