Patna, Bihar – Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections is underway across 18 districts, with 121 constituencies participating. As of 1 PM, the state has recorded a voter turnout of 42.31%, according to the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar.
Gopalganj reported the highest turnout at 46.73%, while Patna saw the lowest at 37.72%. Polling began this morning under tight security measures.
Key candidates are contesting in this phase, including BJP candidate and folk singer Maithili Thakur, who expressed confidence in her victory, stating, “I am already feeling the victory.” RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav urged voters to usher in change.
However, RJD has alleged that electricity was cut off at many booths to influence voting. The Election Commission dismissed these claims as “misleading,” assuring that voting is proceeding smoothly at all polling centers.
Meanwhile, outside of the elections, Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor is scheduled to hold rallies in Gaya and Nawada districts today.
