Roger Howarth’s ‘Young and Restless’ Role Revealed: Soap Vet Returns as Villainous Matt Clark!
Genoa City, [Date] – The whispers were true! Soap opera veteran Roger Howarth has joined “The Young and the Restless,” but not as the rumored Mitch Bacall. In a shocking twist revealed on Friday, October 31st, Howarth debuted as Matt Clark, the notorious tormentor from Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) past.
Initially introduced as Sienna Bacall’s (Tamara Braun) husband, Mitch, viewers speculated Howarth’s character was hiding something. Their suspicions were confirmed when the show’s producers revealed “Mitch” is actually Matt Clark. This is not Howarth’s first time playing a bad boy, but the villainy in this role is turned up.
Howarth, a Daytime Emmy winner known for his roles on “One Life to Live,” “As the World Turns,” and “General Hospital,” expressed his excitement about reuniting with “Y&R” Executive Producer/Head Writer Josh Griffith, who was also involved in One Life to Live, and diving into this complex character.

He praised the show’s costumer, Mandi Line, for helping him visually embody the role with specific wardrobe and jewelry, as the attention to detail helped him easily slip into character. Howarth also stated he enjoyed learning about the background of Matt Clark, and that the show creators took the time to educate him on where the character has been and is headed.
Howarth also teased that fans can expect Matt’s true, villainous colors to emerge quickly and that the role will be working alongside Josh Morrow and Sharon Case. He expressed excitement at the thought, saying “I was super-excited to get to meet Josh and Sharon and they’ve been wonderful.”
With a history of deceit and manipulation, Matt has spent years building a new life as Mitch, making him a compelling and dangerous force in Genoa City. “He’s had a long time to kind of ruminate in that and stew and if anything, I think his maliciousness has gotten louder and deeper,” Howarth warns. “This is a true bad guy.”
