Mumbai, India – A 60-year-old man, Akhtar Hussaini, has been arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly posing as a scientist from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and receiving substantial foreign funds in exchange for sensitive nuclear data, sources have revealed. Hussaini, along with his brother Adil, is suspected of receiving crores of rupees since 2000, after initially receiving lakhs from 1995 onwards.

Police seized over 10 maps and data potentially related to nuclear weapons from Hussaini, a resident of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He was also found in possession of multiple fake passports, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and a forged BARC ID card bearing different names, including “Ali Raza Hussain” and “Alexander Palmer.” Adil was also arrested in Delhi.

The funds are suspected to be payment for secret blueprints related to BARC and other nuclear plants. Police discovered a private bank account under Akhtar Hussaini’s name showing suspicious transactions and have requested full transaction details to determine the exact amount and source of funding. The brothers also closed several accounts which police are now reviewing.

Authorities are also investigating possible links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and reports suggest Hussaini was deported from Dubai in 2004 after claiming to be a scientist with classified documents. He had changed his identity and was living in disguise.

Investigations revealed a network of fake documents facilitated by a contact, Munazzil Khan, after Hussaini sold his ancestral home in 1996. Police believe the brothers used these false identities to travel abroad. The investigation is ongoing.
