Former Minister Arrested in Spurious Liquor Racket

Vijayawada, India – November 2, 2025: Former Andhra Pradesh Minister and YSR Congress party leader Jogi Ramesh, along with his brother Jogi Ramu and assistant Arepalli Ramu, were arrested today in connection with an alleged spurious liquor racket. The arrests were made by the Prohibition and Excise (P&E) department police at Ramesh’s residence in Ibrahimpatnam, on the outskirts of Vijayawada.

The P&E police had registered cases related to the manufacturing and sale of spurious liquor in Bhavanipuram, Vijayawada, and Mulakalacheruvu, Annamayya district. Investigations led to Addepalli Janardhana Rao, already in custody, who allegedly implicated Ramesh as the instigator and mastermind behind the operation. Rao claimed Ramesh promised support for the illegal operation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General of Police G.V.G. Ashok Kumar has been formed to further investigate the case. The arrested individuals have been transferred to the Prohibition and Excise East Police Station in Gurunanak Colony.

The arrest sparked protests, with supporters of Jogi Ramesh staging demonstrations at his residence and at the East Excise Police Station.
