Sun Nov 02 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Sinner Demolishes Zverev, Closing in on World No. 1 at Paris Masters
PARIS – Jannik Sinner delivered a dominant performance Saturday at the Paris Masters, crushing a fatigued Alexander Zverev 6-0, 6-1 in just over an hour. The victory propels the Italian into the final and puts him on the cusp of claiming the World No. 1 ranking.
Sinner, already a four-time Grand Slam champion, will dethrone Carlos Alcaraz from the top spot if he wins Sunday’s final against ninth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime. A win for Auger-Aliassime would secure the final spot for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin. The Canadian earlier defeated Alexander Bublik 7-6(3), 6-4 in a hard-fought semifinal.
Sinner extended his impressive indoor winning streak to 25 matches with the victory, showcasing relentless pressure and capitalizing on a visibly drained Zverev. The German, who saved two match points in a grueling quarterfinal against Daniil Medvedev, struggled to find his form against the in-form Italian.
“Playing against Sascha is always a special occasion, and today he was clearly not 100%, we saw that,” Sinner acknowledged after the match, referencing Zverev’s recent efforts.
Sinner’s dominance was evident from the start, quickly establishing a 5-0 lead and converting 90% of his first serves in the first set, compared to Zverev’s 47%. He continued to pressure Zverev in the second set, breaking serve early and never relinquishing control.
Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime overcame a second-set comeback attempt from Bublik to secure his place in the final. Bublik, the first Kazakh player to reach a Masters semifinal, ultimately succumbed to Auger-Aliassime’s powerful serve and aggressive forehand.
The final promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Sinner vying for his fifth title of the year and the coveted World No. 1 ranking. Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, seeks his fourth title of the season and a guaranteed spot in the ATP Finals.
The pair have a 2-2 head-to-head record, with Sinner winning their most recent encounter in the semifinals of the US Open. Auger-Aliassime is aware of the challenge, stating, “You have to be ready to play your best tennis and to not make cheap mistakes” against Sinner.
