MIAMI, FL – The family of Dulcie White, a 66-year-old New York woman, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Royal Caribbean, alleging that the cruise line’s negligence led to her fatal fall overboard during a “Taylor Swift”-themed cruise in October 2024. White, from Westmoreland, NY, was traveling with her daughter, Megan Klewin, aboard the Allure of the Seas when the incident occurred 17 miles north of Nassau, Bahamas.

The lawsuit claims that White purchased an “unlimited alcoholic beverages” package and was allegedly served seven alcoholic drinks within a six-hour period. Klewin says her mother, intoxicated, fell from the ship’s balcony after climbing on the railing. The family contends that crew members ignored visible signs of White’s intoxication, including slurred speech, swaying, and glassy eyes, and continued to serve her alcohol.

“Each of these crew members were negligent for continuing to serve her alcoholic beverages in her intoxicated state,” stated the family’s lawyer, Spencer Aronfeld.

Klewin believes the crewmembers are incentivized to over-serve alcoholic beverages to make money. “These crew members are incentivized to continue to serve them because that’s how they make their tips.”

Following White’s disappearance into the water, the lawsuit further alleges that the ship did not turn around or launch rescue boats. While the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and US Coast Guard conducted a search, White’s body has not been recovered.

Aronfeld is calling for an end to the cruise line’s “unlimited alcoholic beverages” packages, arguing that they create a dangerous environment, especially at sea. “Royal Caribbean didn’t just sell drinks—it sold danger,” Aronfeld said. “This isn’t an accident; it’s an industry pattern. We’re putting the cruise lines on notice: the days of profiting from over-service while passengers die at sea are over.”

The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court Southern District of Florida Miami Division, seeks to hold Royal Caribbean accountable for its alleged negligence and seeks the discontinuation of “all-you-can-drink” alcohol packages across the cruise industry.

Royal Caribbean has yet to comment on the pending litigation.
