India Gears Up to Launch Heaviest Communication Satellite from Home Soil

Sriharikota, India – October 26, 2025 – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the planned launch of the CMS-03 communication satellite on November 2, 2025, aboard the LVM3-M5 launch vehicle. This will be the 5th operational flight of the LVM3. The launch vehicle has been fully assembled and integrated with the spacecraft and has been moved to the Launch Pad on October 26, 2025 for further pre-launch operations.

Weighing approximately 4400kg, CMS-03 will be the heaviest communication satellite ever launched into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian territory. This multi-band satellite is designed to significantly enhance communication services across a broad oceanic region encompassing the Indian landmass.

This launch comes on the heels of ISRO’s historic Chandrayaan-3 mission, which saw India become the first nation to successfully land a spacecraft near the Moon’s South Pole, also launched on an LVM3 rocket. The LVM3 is proving to be a workhorse for ISRO, capable of handling complex and critical missions. Pre-launch activities are currently underway at the launch pad in preparation for the November 2nd liftoff.
