Sun Nov 02 01:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Kraken’s Solid Defense Fuels Opportunistic Offense, Kakko Nears Return
Seattle, WA – The Seattle Kraken are off to a franchise-best start (13 points in 10 games) thanks to a commitment to strong defensive play that’s generating prime scoring opportunities. Coach Lane Lambert’s emphasis on responsible defense in all zones is paying dividends, allowing the Kraken to capitalize on turnovers and controlled exits from their own zone.
Veteran forwards Jaden Schwartz (4 goals, 5 assists) and Jordan Eberle (3 goals, 4 assists) are leading the charge offensively, consistently finding ways to contribute, whether it’s scoring directly or screening opposing goalies. Defenseman Brandon Montour has been a key playmaker with 5 assists and 2 goals after returning from a week away following the loss of his brother, Cameron, to ALS. He tallied four points in the last two games. Other depth contributors include Matty Beniers and Shane Wright, each with 6 points, showcasing the team’s balanced attack across multiple lines. Excitement is also building around young forward Berkly Catton, who has three assists in five games, and Eeli Tolvanen who looks to score his first goal of the season.
In injury news, forward Kaapo Kakko is nearing his season debut, participating in full practices this week. Lambert praised Kakko’s puck possession skills and size, noting he is eager to get Kakko into the lineup to bolster the team’s offense. Defenseman Ryker Evans has also returned to practice in a no-contact jersey, showing progress in his recovery.
The Kraken are set to face the New York Rangers who have rebounded from a rocky start to boast the league’s best road record (5-1-1). Kraken fans will welcome back former Kraken defenseman Will Borgen, who returns to Seattle for the first time since being traded to New York. Another original Kraken defenseman, Carson Soucy, is also now on the Rangers’ blue line, while Kraken free agent signee Ryan Lindgren faces his former long-time defensive partner, Adam Fox, for the first time. Fox has three goals and six assists in 12 games (top five among NHL D-men) while forward Taylor Raddysh is the team’s surprise leader in goals with five.
