Northeast Universities in Crisis: Congress MP Gogoi to Raise Concerns in Parliament

Guwahati, November 2, 2025 – Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has vowed to address the concerning state of universities in the Northeast region of India during upcoming parliamentary sessions. Citing ongoing administrative and institutional crises, Gogoi specifically highlighted the situation at Tezpur University in Assam, having already written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the issue last month.

Mr. Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, expressed broader concerns about the declining performance and functionality of several prominent universities in the region, including NEHU and Guwahati University. He attributed these issues often to actions taken by the respective Vice Chancellors, leading to dissatisfaction among both students and faculty.

“Once the centres of academic excellence, both students and teachers of these institutions have expressed displeasure in the functioning of these universities,” Gogoi stated in a post on X. He emphasized the negative impact on university performance and rankings and expressed hope for a positive response from the Prime Minister’s office after he raises the issue in Parliament.
