Marcus Mumford Channels Gracie Abrams in BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance
LONDON, UK – Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons surprised listeners during a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge appearance this week, delivering a striking cover of Gracie Abrams’ hit song “I Love You, I’m Sorry.” Mumford’s rendition, broadcast on Monday, echoed Abrams’ signature vocal style and guitar arrangements.
The band’s performance included their own track “Rubber Band Man,” but the cover of Abrams’ deeply personal song sparked significant buzz. Mumford powerfully delivered lines like, “That’s just the way life goes/I like to slam doors closed/Trust me, I know it’s always about me/I love you, I’m sorry,” capturing the raw emotion of the original.
The connection between Mumford & Sons and Gracie Abrams extends beyond this recent performance. As revealed last November, Abrams and her co-writer Audrey Hobert inadvertently serenaded the band with a “very vulgar” early version of her song “That’s So True” while working on the roof of Electric Lady Studios. Unbeknownst to them, Mumford & Sons were conducting an interview directly above.
“We were just doubled over in tears, laughing so hard, saying the most horrific [stuff] to song,” Abrams explained.
The two acts also shared a stage last year at a pre-election concert in Wisconsin, supporting Vice President Kamala Harris. Abrams performed “I Love You, I’m Sorry” and “Free Now,” while Mumford & Sons delivered a four-song set.
Mumford’s recent cover suggests a mutual respect and admiration between the artists, leaving fans eager for potential future collaborations.
