Indian Student Arrested After Fork Attack on Lufthansa Flight, Forces Emergency Landing
BOSTON, October 28, 2025 – A Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Frankfurt was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston after a passenger, identified as 28-year-old Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, allegedly attacked two teenage passengers with a metal fork.
Usiripalli, a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, was arrested on October 25th and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to cause bodily harm while traveling on an aircraft. He is awaiting a federal court appearance in Boston.
According to court documents, the incident occurred shortly after meal service on Lufthansa Flight 431. Usiripalli reportedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy seated next to him in the shoulder with a fork. He then allegedly attacked another 17-year-old, stabbing him in the back of the head and causing a laceration.
Witnesses report that as flight attendants and passengers attempted to subdue Usiripalli, he mimed shooting himself by forming a gun shape with his hand and pulling the trigger. He is also accused of slapping a female passenger and attempting to strike a member of the cabin crew.
The pilots diverted the aircraft to Boston Logan International Airport where law enforcement officials were waiting to take Usiripalli into custody.

If convicted, Usiripalli faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
