Pakistan’s Propaganda Debunked: Rafale Pilot Shivangi Singh Pictured with President Murmu After False Claims of Capture
Ambala Air Force Base, Haryana – A stark image has emerged, effectively disproving Pakistani media reports claiming the capture of Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh. The Varanasi-born pilot, falsely reported as a prisoner of war after her fighter jet was allegedly shot down during “Operation Sindoor,” was photographed Wednesday morning at Ambala Air Force base alongside President Droupadi Murmu.
The photo, showing a smiling Singh in flight overalls giving President Murmu a tour of the Rafale fighter jet, stands as a symbol of India’s military strength and a rebuttal to Pakistan’s disinformation campaign.
In May, following India’s “Operation Sindoor” – a military response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba that killed 26 – Pakistani media and social media accounts ramped up efforts to spread false information. Claims included shooting down six Indian aircraft, including a Rafale, and the capture of Squadron Leader Singh. Some reports even circulated videos falsely portraying the Air Chief Marshal visiting Singh’s grieving family.
The Indian government swiftly refuted these claims. The Press Information Bureau’s fact-check wing labeled the reports of Singh’s capture as “FAKE.” Furthermore, the Air Force confirmed Singh was alive and performing her duties. The video in question was found to be related to the family of Sergeant Surendra Kumar, who died fighting for India during “Operation Sindoor.”
Indian officials presented evidence that, contrary to Pakistani claims, no Indian aircraft were shot down, and instead, Pakistan lost six of its own, including F-16 and JF-17 fighter jets.
The appearance of Squadron Leader Singh with President Murmu effectively puts an end to the misinformation that was cirulated and reinforces the reality.
