Sydney Sweeney Denies Fueling Glen Powell Romance Rumors During ‘Anyone But You’ Promotion

Los Angeles, CA – Actress Sydney Sweeney is speaking out, denying that she and co-star Glen Powell deliberately fueled the romance rumors that swirled around them during the promotion of their hit rom-com, “Anyone But You.” In a recent interview with Variety, Sweeney, 28, addressed the media frenzy, stating that the press created the narrative themselves, magnifying even simple interactions.

The buzz surrounding Sweeney and Powell, 37, intensified due to their undeniable on-screen chemistry and Powell’s split from his then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, last year. Sweeney was also engaged to Jonathan Davino at the time. According to Sweeney, “There was no leaning in, per se…Truly the tabloids and journalists just created it and kept going. Even if we were just standing next to each other, it was ‘They’re standing two inches apart!’”

She emphasized a genuine friendship and respect between her and Powell, saying, “Glen and I genuinely care for each other and have a love and respect for one another. I love being with him. And I think people just truly saw a really beautiful pairing.”

Sweeney’s comments come after Powell’s ex, Gigi Paris, publicly criticized Powell for not shutting down the romance rumors while they were still together. Powell addressed Paris’s remarks in a September interview with GQ, acknowledging the difficulty of relationships and breakups, stating that everyone has their own narrative.

Interestingly, both Powell and Sweeney have previously hinted at a more strategic approach to the rumors. Sweeney stated in a previous interview with Variety, “It’s fun to give it to ’em,” While Powell told The New York Times, “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Despite the conflicting narratives, Sweeney and Powell remain open to a sequel to “Anyone But You,” waiting for the right script and concept. Sweeney’s next movie, “Christy,” will be in theaters on November 7th. Sweeney is currently dating Scooter Braun.
