Giants’ Rookie Sensation Cam Skattebo Suffers Gruesome Ankle Injury, Undergoes Surgery

PHILADELPHIA, PA – New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo is hospitalized following a severe ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Skattebo suffered an open dislocation of his right ankle while attempting to catch a pass in the second quarter, an injury described as an “emergency situation” by sources.

The injury occurred when Skattebo’s ankle was trapped beneath an Eagles player, causing his foot to turn at an unnatural angle. Witnesses described the scene as visibly distressing, with some players turning away to avoid witnessing the injury. Offensive lineman Greg Van Roten immediately signaled for medical assistance, stating, “When he pulled it out, you could see his foot was the wrong way… I just wanted [Skattebo] to stay down.”

Skattebo was carted off the field with his leg in an air cast, receiving a standing ovation from the Philadelphia crowd. He underwent surgery Sunday night to repair the dislocated ankle and is reportedly doing well given the severity of the injury.

“Yeah, feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said after the game. “Obviously, saw it looked bad. I know you feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury.”

The loss of Skattebo is a significant blow to the Giants, who are already without star wide receiver Malik Nabers due to an ACL injury. Skattebo, a fourth-round draft pick out of Arizona State, had emerged as a key player in the Giants’ offense, scoring his seventh touchdown of the season earlier in the game. He had become the team’s feature back and had sparked life into the offense alongside rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, including leading the team to an upset win over the Eagles just two weeks prior.

“I was devastated,” Dart said. “It’s my boy, man. So seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”

Skattebo’s promising rookie season ends with 101 rushes for 410 yards and five touchdowns.

The Giants will now rely on Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary to fill the void in the backfield.
