CHENNAI, October 28, 2025 – A confrontation between two groups of college students escalated into violence in Maduravoyal, Chennai, on Sunday night, resulting in multiple arrests and a police investigation. The clash involved the use of country-made bombs, causing minor injuries to at least one individual.

According to local police, the incident is rooted in a long-standing rivalry between Arasan, a student of Pachaiyappa’s College, and Naveen Kumar, a law student from a private college in Maduravoyal. An earlier altercation between the two groups reportedly occurred three months ago.

On Sunday night, a group led by Mayajothi, a 22-year-old student, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, confronted Naveen Kumar at his residence. During the ensuing scuffle, a crude bomb was reportedly hurled from Naveen Kumar’s group, injuring Vignesh, 21.

Police responded quickly to the scene and arrested five individuals: Mayajothi, Vignesh, Ajith (20), Ashiq (20), and Jestin (19). A manhunt is currently underway for Naveen Kumar and six other individuals who are currently at large.
