A-Rod Reflects on “Atrocious” Acting, Credits Therapy for Turning Life Around Ahead of HBO Documentary
New York, NY – Alex Rodriguez, the baseball icon and World Series champion, isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to self-assessment. In a recent appearance on the “Throwbacks” podcast, hosted by Jerry Ferrara and Matt Leinart, A-Rod humorously revisited his 2011 guest appearance on HBO’s “Entourage,” admitting his acting skills were less than stellar.
“How atrocious of an actor I am,” Rodriguez joked, reminiscing about the experience filmed at Yankee Stadium. Despite the self-deprecating humor, A-Rod fondly remembered the cameo, acknowledging the show’s cultural impact, especially after he and his teammates won the 2009 World Series Championship.
The podcast conversation also served as a segue into Rodriguez’s upcoming HBO documentary, “Alex v AROD,” a project fifteen years in the making. The former Yankee star explained that the delay was due to the emotional readiness required to delve into the highs and lows of his career. “I think there’s a story about a flawed man who happened to play baseball, and therapy saved his life,” he stated.
Rodriguez addressed his controversial suspension from the MLB in 2014, calling it a low point that cost him a chance at the Hall of Fame. However, he emphasized that the experience ultimately led to significant personal growth. “A part of me died when I got suspended… But in many ways, it saved my life because I was able to work on the tools, rewire the brain, and make me, I believe, a better person to be, a better father, a better friend, a better owner.”
“Alex v AROD” promises an unvarnished look into Rodriguez’s life, offering insights into his successes, failures, and the transformative power of self-reflection.
“Alex v AROD” premieres November 6 on HBO Max.
“Throwbacks” is produced by AMP Media, a subsidiary of Sinclair, Inc.
