Sun Oct 26 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Gary Oldman’s Oscar-Winning “Darkest Hour” Lands on Paramount+
Los Angeles, CA – Gary Oldman’s acclaimed performance as Winston Churchill in the historical drama “Darkest Hour” will be available for streaming on Paramount+ starting November 1st. The 2017 film, which earned Oldman his first Academy Award for Best Actor, depicts Churchill’s early days as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the crucial early years of World War II.
Directed by Joe Wright, “Darkest Hour” follows Churchill’s struggle to unite the nation against the looming threat of Nazi Germany. Facing immense pressure to negotiate a peace treaty, Churchill ultimately chooses to fight, rallying the British people and setting the stage for eventual victory.
The film boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, and Ben Mendelsohn. While Oldman’s Oscar win was celebrated, some critics argued it was a recognition of his long and distinguished career, spanning roles like Sid Vicious in “Sid and Nancy” and his current role as Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses,” rather than solely based on this specific performance.
Oldman continues to shine on Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses,” recently renewed through season seven. Director Joe Wright also recently explored another controversial figure from the same era with “Mussolini: Son of the Century” for Sky Atlantic.
“Darkest Hour” will be available on Paramount+ beginning November 1st.
