Sat Oct 25 22:30:00 UTC 2025: News Article: Norris Claims Stunning Pole Position at 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix

Mexico City, Mexico – Lando Norris delivered a sensational performance in qualifying for the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, securing pole position with a blistering lap time. The McLaren driver outpaced the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who will start second and third respectively.

Norris, who had shown strong pace throughout the practice sessions, unleashed a 1m 15.586s lap in the final qualifying session (Q3), leaving Leclerc 0.262 seconds behind. Hamilton secured third, completing a strong showing for Ferrari.

Mercedes driver George Russell will start fourth, followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in fifth. Kimi Antonelli in the second Mercedes secured sixth. Carlos Sainz initially qualified seventh, but a five-place grid penalty from the previous race will drop him down to twelfth.

Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren struggled to match his teammate’s pace and finished eighth. Isack Hadjar and Ollie Bearman rounded out the top ten.

Earlier in the day, Yuki Tsunoda narrowly missed out on Q3, while Esteban Ocon, Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso, and Liam Lawson were eliminated in Q2. Q1 saw Gabriel Bortoleto, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lance Stroll, and Franco Colapinto knocked out.

Norris expressed his delight with the result, stating, “I’m happy to be back on pole, it’s actually been quite a long time. It was one of those laps where you don’t really know what happened, it felt decent but when I crossed the line and saw 1m 15.5s, I was very pleasantly surprised.”

Fans were treated to driver meet-and-greets with the Red Bull and Haas teams, as well as the Mercedes and Alpine teams, at the fan zone.

The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix promises to be an exciting race, with Norris looking to convert his pole position into a victory. The race is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM local time on Sunday.
