Kraken’s Montour Returns After Brother’s Death from ALS
Seattle, WA – Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour returned to the ice Saturday after a week-long leave of absence, revealing that his older brother, Cameron Noble-Montour, passed away on Monday from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The 31-year-old Montour had taken a leave of absence on Oct. 18 to be with his family. He shared details of his brother’s courageous battle with the disease, which began in late 2021 with a twitch in his arm and progressed to a debilitating loss of motor function.
“Obviously a rough week,” Montour told the media, fighting back tears. “Very proud, very happy to be his brother… He battled hard… He was smiling. He was ready.”
Cameron Noble-Montour, 35, was described in a GoFundMe campaign as a loving brother, caring husband, and devoted father to two daughters. The campaign detailed how he faced the challenges of ALS with a positive attitude.
Montour, who won a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024 before signing with the Kraken, expressed gratitude for the support he received and shared that being back with his team and family would help him cope with the loss. “Being back here in Seattle and seeing my kids and being a part of this again, keep my mind off other things, which will be good,” he said.
Despite the personal tragedy, Montour is expected to be in the lineup when the Kraken face the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
