Cyclone Montha Threatens Coastal India; Officials on High Alert
VIJAYAWADA – October 26, 2025 – Coastal districts of India are bracing for the impact of Cyclone Montha, which is expected to intensify into a severe storm in the coming days. Special Chief Secretary R.P. Sisodia, appointed as the special officer to coordinate relief efforts in 10 districts, has directed officials to be on full alert and implement comprehensive preparedness measures.
During a meeting in Guntur, Mr. Sisodia emphasized the need to evacuate residents from vulnerable structures, secure essential food and relief supplies, and prioritize the safety of drinking water. He instructed teams to ensure power saws are available for clearing fallen trees and to immediately repair any vulnerable embankments.
The Revenue and Police departments are taking precautionary measures at low-lying causeways, while telecom operators have been instructed to maintain mobile tower functionality throughout the cyclone period. Generators are being prepared to maintain pumping operations during potential power outages.
Mr. Sisodia warned that Cyclone Montha could be more severe than previous storms, with forecasts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts. He urged officials to remain fully prepared for the next four days.
District Collector A. Thameem Ansaria and other key officials were present at the meeting, as Mr. Sisodia inspected the district control room. Authorities are taking all necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the cyclone and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
