The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for at least 12 districts in Andhra Pradesh, warning of heavy rainfall and powerful winds gusting up to 110 kmph.
The IMD forecasts Montha will strengthen into a deep depression today, October 26th, and evolve into a severe cyclonic storm by October 27th. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has put all district officials on high alert and urged coastal residents to evacuate to safer locations. He has also instructed the declaration of holidays for educational institutions if necessary. Authorities are closely monitoring reservoir levels and preparing for potential flooding. NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby.
In Odisha, disaster management teams are on high alert, and the government has activated its disaster readiness model. Revenue & Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, reassured the public that all departments are prepared to tackle potential flooding, river swelling, and cyclone impacts.
Telangana is also anticipating heavy rainfall from October 27th to 29th, according to the IMD’s Hyderabad center.
The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), chaired by Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan, has convened to review preparedness across affected regions. The focus is on coordinating relief efforts and minimizing potential loss of life and property.
