Andhra Pradesh Braces for Cyclone “Montha” with Relief Preparations Underway

VIJAYAWADA, October 26, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government is taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the impending severe cyclonic storm “Montha,” which is forecast to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kakinada on the evening of October 28th.

In anticipation of the storm’s arrival, the government has appointed Special Officers to each district to oversee and coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts. These officers will work closely with District Collectors to ensure the effective implementation of rescue operations, the delivery of essential aid, and the restoration of normalcy following the cyclone.

According to a government order issued yesterday, the Special Officers are directed to immediately establish Cyclone Control Rooms in their respective districts. They will be responsible for coordinating relief efforts across various departments and ensuring that assistance reaches every person affected, with a particular focus on “last-mile delivery” to remote and vulnerable communities.

For streamlined zonal coordination, Ajay Jain has been appointed Zonal In-charge Officer for the districts from Srikakulam to Konaseema, while R.P. Sisodia will oversee the districts from West Godavari to Chittoor. Individual officers have been assigned to each district, including K.V.N. Chakradhara Babu for Srikakulam and P.S. Girisha for Chittoor, among others.

The Meteorological Department reports that “Montha” is currently a depression located in the Southeast Bay of Bengal, approximately 950 kilometers east-southeast of Chennai and 990 kilometers southeast of Kakinada. It is expected to intensify into a deep depression by today and further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28th.

The government has urged residents in the coastal areas to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the cyclone’s progress through official channels. Further updates will be provided as the storm develops.
