Sat Oct 25 16:54:40 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Telangana Gears Up for Record Power Demand in 2026 with Infrastructure Boost

Hyderabad, October 25, 2025 – Telangana is preparing for a significant surge in power demand anticipated during the 2026 Rabi and Summer seasons, projecting a need for over 19,000 MW. Principal Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal announced a comprehensive plan to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply, building upon the state’s success in maintaining consistent power despite peak demand reaching 17,162 MW this year.

During a review meeting held with senior officials at the Southern Power Distribution Company (TGSPDCL) on Saturday, Mittal outlined key infrastructural upgrades. These include the establishment of 72 new substations under the Southern DISCOM and 31 under the Northern DISCOM. TRANSCO is also enhancing transformer capacity at 181 EHT substations. Furthermore, 8,384 new distribution transformers will be installed under Southern DISCOM, and 5,280 under Northern DISCOM, accompanied by an expansion of kV lines and PTR capacities at kV substations.

Mittal also highlighted the nearing completion of BTPS and KTPS-IV units, as well as the full operationalization of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station within the coming months, which will collectively add 4,000 MW to the state’s generation capacity. Singareni CMD Balaram assured that coal production is currently at 1.8 million tonnes per day and is expected to reach 2.2 million tonnes per day by November, ensuring ample supply for thermal plants to meet the anticipated demand.

In a move towards sustainable energy solutions, Mittal urged government organizations to leverage incentives for setting up EV charging stations under the PM-eDrive initiative, emphasizing the importance of public awareness. He directed utilities and TGREDCO to collaborate in transforming Hyderabad into India’s leading EV hub.

TGSPDCL CMD Musharaf Faruqui reported that an ongoing EV infrastructure survey has already identified 3,121 potential locations for EV charging stations, with the number expected to rise.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Krishna Bhaskar, CMD, TGTRANSCO; Harish, CMD, TGGENCO; Varun Reddy, CMD, TGNPDCL; and Anila, Managing Director of TGREDCO. This collaborative effort aims to ensure that Telangana is well-equipped to meet the growing energy demands of its citizens and industries in the coming years.
