CHENNAI, October 25, 2025 – A 40-year-old autorickshaw driver, identified as Murugan, died on Friday, October 24, 2025, shortly after being questioned by police at the Poonamallee police station. The incident occurred following an inquiry into a monetary dispute.

According to police sources, Murugan, a resident of Avadi, had allegedly borrowed ₹6.40 lakh from a woman named Sasikala. When Murugan reportedly failed to repay the debt, Sasikala approached him. During this encounter, Murugan’s brother-in-law, Karthik, allegedly verbally abused her. Sasikala then filed a complaint against both men.

Murugan and Karthik were summoned to the Poonamallee police station for questioning on Friday morning. They were reportedly interrogated from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM. While being transported home, Murugan collapsed near Karaiyanchavadi. He was rushed to the Poonamallee Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Murugan’s family members have alleged that the extended police interrogation contributed to his death, leading to heated arguments with police officials at the hospital.
