Sat Oct 25 15:40:00 UTC 2025: Manchester United Sweat on Maguire and Mount Fitness Ahead of Brighton Clash

Old Trafford, England – Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that key players Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are doubtful for their crucial Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils are riding high after securing back-to-back league wins, including a dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, their first win there since 2016. However, the celebrations may be tempered by the potential absence of Maguire, whose late header secured the win against their arch-rivals, and midfielder Mount.

“The squad is fine, we have some doubts,” Amorim stated in a press conference on Friday. “We had some issues during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks but nothing serious. We will see tomorrow. Licha [Lisandro Martínez] is out. The rest are ready for the game.”

Maguire’s potential absence would be a blow, especially after his match-winning performance against Liverpool. The defender, who has faced criticism since his £80 million move from Leicester City in 2019, will be eager to prove his fitness and maintain his place in the starting eleven.

Amorim also acknowledged the threat posed by Brighton, describing them as “a team that is really fun to watch.” He added, “They are really good on the build up, they are really strong on transitions, in every aspect of the game. They are doing well in set pieces this season, so I think they are a team that is really complete. We need to be really smart and to face that game with a real focus on everything that we do because they are a very strong team.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Bruno Fernandes is set to make his 300th appearance for Manchester United, and Amorim was full of praise for the Portuguese playmaker. “Everything you read about the player sometimes is not that,” Amorim said. “He wants the responsibility all the time. He suffered a lot with the losses. Every time we don’t win a game, you can feel that he takes it personally, as you should as a captain. He is a great leader, a great footballer.”

The match against Brighton is crucial for Manchester United as they look to build momentum and climb further up the Premier League table. The final decision on Maguire and Mount’s availability will be made closer to kick-off.
