Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh – October 25, 2025 – Forensic experts from the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) are working tirelessly to identify the victims of a devastating bus fire that claimed the lives of 19 passengers near Kurnool on Friday. The Bengaluru-bound private bus caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler on the National Highway near Chinna Tekur village.
The victims were tragically charred beyond recognition in the intense blaze. Sixteen teams of APFSL specialists, led by Director G. Pala Raju, were immediately deployed to the scene to collect samples. The collected samples including soft tissues and bones, and blood samples of the relatives were sent to the APFSL facility in Amaravati.
“As the bodies were charred beyond recognition in the flames, the bodies were preserved in the mortuary. They would be handed over to the bereaved families after DNA analysis,” stated the police.
“DNA extraction has been started at the APFSL at Amaravati. DNA sample of one unidentified body has been preserved in the FSL. If anybody claims the body, we will hand it over it after matching with their blood sample,” the APFSL Director said.
According to Mr. Pala Raju, the DNA matching process is expected to be completed within 48 hours. Once the forensic analysis is complete, the police will release the remains to the families for final rites. Authorities are urging anyone who believes they may have lost a loved one in the tragedy to contact the APFSL or local police.
The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through the region. Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
