Sat Oct 25 14:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Georgia Tech Stars King, Gilmore Earn ACC Weekly Honors After Duke Upset
ATLANTA, GA – Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King and defensive back Jy Gilmore have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Quarterback and Defensive Back of the Week, respectively, following their stellar performances in the Yellow Jackets’ 27-18 victory over Duke.
King, a redshirt senior, racked up 325 total yards (205 passing, 120 rushing) and orchestrated a second-half offensive explosion, leading Georgia Tech to scores on four consecutive possessions. His performance included a 28-yard touchdown run, his 10th of the season. This marks King’s third ACC Quarterback of the Week award this season and the sixth of his career. He continues to etch his name in Georgia Tech history, becoming only the fifth Yellow Jacket to surpass 6,000 career passing yards and setting a new school record for games with at least 100 passing and 100 rushing yards.
Gilmore anchored the defense with a game-high 11 tackles, along with 1.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, and two pass breakups. His efforts helped limit Duke, who averaged 36.5 points per game, to a season-low 18 points and just 68 rushing yards. This is Gilmore’s first ACC weekly honor.
The win propelled Georgia Tech to a perfect 7-0 record, their best start since 1966, and a No. 7 ranking in the national polls, their highest regular-season ranking since 2009.
The Yellow Jackets will look to continue their momentum as they return home to face Syracuse this Saturday for their homecoming game at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. The game will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the “Miracle on Techwood Drive” win over Florida State in 2015.
