Hollywood, CA – Despite previous attempts stalling, a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster “Crazy Rich Asians” is reportedly back on track, according to director Jon M. Chu. In a recent interview with Esquire, Chu confirmed that scripts are written and production is ready to commence, pending a green light from Warner Bros.

The news comes as a surprise to many, considering the multiple failed attempts to capitalize on the original film’s success. Chu, now a major player at Warner Bros. thanks to the success of “Wicked” and its highly anticipated sequel, is also slated to direct a “Hot Wheels” movie for J.J. Abrams.

While Chu remained vague about which cast members would be returning for the sequel, he assured fans that “our cast will be there.” He also addressed the challenges of adapting Kevin Kwan’s “China Rich Girlfriend,” the sequel novel, for the screen, stating that the first film deviated significantly from the books, requiring a more inspired approach to the storyline.

News of the project began circulating in February, shortly after Chu delivered another box office hit for Warner Bros. While a release date remains unknown, Chu’s confirmation offers a glimmer of hope for fans eager to return to the opulent world of “Crazy Rich Asians.”
