According to the French culture ministry, the stolen items include a tiara and brooch once owned by Empress Eugenie, an emerald necklace and earrings of Empress Marie Louise, a tiara, necklace, and single earring from a sapphire set previously owned by Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense, and a brooch known as the reliquary brooch.
“These jewels are not only incredibly valuable financially, but also represent an irreplaceable part of French history,” said a spokesperson for the museum.
The thieves gained access to the Apollo Gallery by breaking into the museum earlier this week. The new footage shows the robbers cutting through a glass display case while visitors walked by, completely unaware.
