Nottingham Forest Breaks 30-Year European Drought with Victory Over FC Porto

Nottingham, England – Nottingham Forest secured a momentous 2-0 victory against FC Porto in the Europa League, marking their first European win in three decades. The triumph, fueled by penalties from Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus, provided a significant boost under new manager Sean Dyche.

In a game filled with drama and VAR intervention, Forest displayed resilience and attacking flair. Gibbs-White calmly converted a penalty in the 19th minute after a handball by Porto’s Jan Bednarek. Bednarek thought he had equalized early in the second half but the goal was disallowed due to an offside in the buildup.

The City Ground erupted again in the 77th minute when Jesus confidently dispatched a second penalty, awarded after a VAR review of a challenge on Savona. This victory ended Forest’s 10-game winless streak and dented Porto’s previously unblemished start to the season.

The win, a welcome sight for owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Dyche, in his first European game with Forest, praised his team’s spirit and determination. “This was a crucial win for us,” Dyche stated after the match. “The players showed great character and commitment. It’s a step in the right direction.”

The victory marks a significant milestone for Nottingham Forest, a club with a rich history in European competition, including two European Cups. The City Ground was buzzing with excitement. This win offers renewed hope as they continue their Europa League campaign.
