Jaipur Hospital’s ‘Freedom from Cancer’ Project Celebrates 200 Success Stories
JAIPUR, October 24, 2025 – A groundbreaking initiative at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital in Jaipur is giving hope to hundreds battling blood cancer. The “Freedom from Cancer” project, launched in 2015, provides free treatment and comprehensive support to patients suffering from Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) who lack the financial resources to manage the disease.
Hospital Director (Clinical Services) Dr. S. G. Kabra announced today that the project has enabled 200 patients to live healthy and productive lives for over five years. Over 330 patients have been enrolled since its inception, receiving free medication, diagnostic tests, and nursing care, all funded by philanthropists, charitable trusts, and individual donors.
The project focuses on “target therapy” using the drug Imatinib, a medication that has proven highly effective in achieving long-lasting remission of CML in over 85% of patients. Imatinib targets only cancer cells, minimizing side effects and improving quality of life. Dr. Kabra emphasized that the project goes beyond medical treatment, restoring dignity and equality to patients who previously faced lifelong challenges and the risk of disease progression.
“Our success stories have proved that cancer can be defeated when treatment is accessible to all,” Dr. Kabra stated. He highlighted the positive impact on families, who collectively save ₹40 lakh annually thanks to the project. He also noted compliance has been maintained through the project, so patients are able to maintain their dignity and quality of life, restoring the families and saving countless futures.
The beneficiaries include individuals like Vijay Lal, a 68-year-old farmer now supporting his family after recovering from cancer, and Parmeshwari Devi, a 65-year-old widow enjoying a cancer-free life with her family. Bhagirath, a goldsmith who fought both Leukemia and CML, is now living a full life thanks to this project.
The success of the “Freedom from Cancer” project serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the profound impact of accessible and effective cancer treatment. It has spent ₹2.28 crore so far and is working at allowing effective intervention in the treatment of cancer patients who were unable to bear the expenses.
