No Immediate Succession Plans, Says Jarkiholi, But Eyes Karnataka CM Post in 2028

BELAGAVI, Oct 23, 2025 (The Hindu) – Amidst swirling speculation about the future leadership of Karnataka, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi has clarified remarks made by Yathindra Siddaramaiah regarding a potential successor to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Speaking in Kittur, Belagavi district, on Thursday, Jarkiholi stated that Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s comments were focused on an “ideological” successor, not an immediate political one. “He has felt that I share the liberal, progressive ideology of his father and that I should lead the AHINDA groups after Mr. Siddaramaiah’s retirement,” Jarkiholi explained. “I do not think that is wrong.”

Jarkiholi explicitly refuted any suggestion that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would step down before the end of his term. “His statement is not suggestive of the fact that Mr. Siddaramaiah will leave his position mid-way or that I will replace him before the end of the term. As of now, there is neither a proposal for replacing Mr. Siddaramaiah nor any discussion to that effect in the party,” he asserted.

However, the minister confirmed his ambition to become Chief Minister in 2028. “I have said this in the past, too. It is for the party high command to decide on the appointment of the Chief Minister, after consultation with legislators,” Jarkiholi stated, adding, “We will have to wait and see as to who will be picked to lead the next government.”

The comments come after Yathindra Siddaramaiah spoke about Jarkiholi as a possible AHINDA leader in the future, sparking considerable political discussion within the state. The future of Karnataka’s leadership remains a point of intense observation as the political landscape continues to evolve.
