Student Dies After Alleged Assault at Freshers’ Party in Latur, India
Latur, Maharashtra – October 23, 2025 – A student has died in Latur, Maharashtra, allegedly after being assaulted during a freshers’ party at a private college. Police have arrested six students in connection with the incident, which occurred on October 8th at a college in the MIDC area.
The victim, identified as Suraj Shinde, reportedly had an argument with a group of fellow students during the freshers’ party. The dispute, which began during dancing, quickly escalated into violence. Police state that the group allegedly attacked Shinde with sticks and fists, causing serious injuries.
Shinde was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the incident, police registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by another student. As of October 22nd, six students have been arrested in connection with the assault.
The arrested students have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for various offenses, including murder, voluntarily causing hurt, causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. Police Sub-Inspector Suresh Pogulwar is leading the investigation.
