Bangkok – October 23, 2025 – Over 600 people have fled a notorious scam center in Myanmar and crossed into Thailand following a military raid on the compound, according to a Thai provincial official. The mass exodus from KK Park, a known hub for internet fraud, occurred on Thursday morning as authorities moved in.

Sawanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, deputy Governor of Tak province, confirmed that 677 individuals had crossed the Moei river into Thailand. The group, comprised of foreign nationals, will undergo screening to determine if they are victims of human trafficking, according to Thai authorities. Those found not to be victims could face prosecution for illegal border crossing.

The scam centers along Myanmar’s loosely governed border have flourished since the 2021 coup, exploiting the ongoing civil war. These centers often target individuals with romance and business scams, generating substantial illicit revenue.

While previous crackdowns have led to the repatriation of thousands of workers, an AFP investigation revealed that construction and connectivity, including the use of Starlink internet service, have continued unabated.
